Since I began handling the JEMB website back in 2004 I have sought to create a site that was fairly pleasing to use, friendly, and full of features that the community could take advantage of.
This took the form of a photo gallery (which was a huge hit), discussion groups, and online calendars which all proved to be very useful. However, this was entirely a custom solution that I built by hand, and thus was unweildly when it came to others being able to share some of the load of administration. This resulted in fewer updates and photos, and less news being posted.
So, Mr. G and I talked about this recently and after a bit of digging, I found the solution which you are now looking at. The calendars are through Google, the photos are through Flickr, and the engine driving it all is a very robust system that will allow for not only as many contributors as we need, but also gives them all a nice interface to post items to the site.
I have created a shell of the site so far - discussion boards are not online, and I'm debating the need for them (if you have an opinion one way or the other, please email me). All of the content areas are under development as well... so if you have ideas, I'd love to hear them.
Also, please register on the website, especially if you are a staff member, or an Executive Board member of the Boosters. Once you are registered, you may be promoted to a contributor on the website so you can submit articles and news items.
Hopefully, this will fit in with all of the other great things happening so far in the planning for the fall season. We have a great staff pulled together (bios should be coming shortly), amazing music being written, and enthusiasm coming out our ears. Everything is pointing to this being a stellar year that will make quite an IMPACT (hint hint).
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing all of you very soon.
